Luanda - The Algerian ambassador to Angola, Abdelhakim Mihoubi, said Wednesday in Luanda that relations between Algeria and Angola are historic and date back to the time of the national liberation struggle.
The diplomat was speaking on the sidelines of the commemorative act of the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Glorious Revolution in Algeria, on November 1, 1954, which culminated in independence, on July 5, 1962.
By the way, the ambassador said he had a collection of 30 photos of the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, and other Angolan leaders during the war of revolution with Algerian compatriots.
According to the diplomat, the 'most important thing is the difficult common past that both countries lived together and that, for this reason, a historic friendship was sealed'.
On the other hand, the Algerian ambassador spoke of bilateral cooperation in the area of higher education, recalling that, since Angola's independence, his country has offered scholarships that have contributed to the training of many Angolans in different fields of knowledge, with emphasis on the oil industry.
He added that, this year (2024), at least 35 Angolan students have benefited from scholarships, including 10 scholarships for excellence in Algerian higher schools, in the specialties of agriculture, science and technology, computer science, mathematics, natural sciences and agronomy.
However, he stressed the need to extend this cooperation to other areas, such as the economy. Algeria is working to sign some agreements to boost trade between the two countries.
He said there are several sectors to be explored and with the return of the Algerian airline to Angola soon, it will be a goal to be achieved.
According to Abdelhakim Mihoubi, other sectors of cooperation will be strengthened with the holding of the fifth Algeria/Angola Joint Commission.
Angola and Algeria maintain diplomatic relations, which are increasingly strengthened thanks to constant dialogue, strategic cooperation and partnerships in various areas of mutual interest.
