Luanda – The King of Spain Filipe VI will carry out a state visit to the Republic of Angola, as part of strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
The announcement was made on Thursday by the Spanish ambassador to Angola, Manuel Lejarreta.
Lejarreta announced so on the sidelines of the new year’s greeting ceremony from the diplomatic bodies to the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, held in the Angolan capital.
According to the diplomat, Angola is a strategic country for Spain, whose trade goes around USD1 billion, essentially as a result of oil and gas exports to this European country.
He said that this trip to the country will be the first visit of King Philip VI to a sub-Saharan state.
In his view, Angola and Spain there are great areas to be explored in the field of bilateral cooperation.
Angola and the Kingdom of Spain have signed several cooperation agreements, mainly in the sectors of agriculture, fisheries, industry, commerce, tourism, defence and security and air transport.
Cooperation between Angola and the Kingdom of Spain are based on the General Cooperation Agreement, signed on May 20, 1987, and the Complementary Agreement to the General Agreement, signed in November 1987.
Cooperation between the two countries has intensified in the business sector, with the presence of Spanish companies in Angola, in sectors such as energy, banking, construction and agriculture.
