Menongue - Upgrading the levels of combative readiness and training for the military to respond to the major challenges of current times continues to be the main focus of the south-eastern military region.
This fact was stressed Wednesday in the city of Menongue, Cuando Cubango by the commander of the southeast military region, Remígio do Espírito Santo, at the end of the visit to the region which was made by the minister of National Defence, Former Combatants and Veterans, João Ernesto dos Santos “Liberdade.
According to him, another priority for the region concerns troop discipline and the prevention of road accidents, given that many soldiers drive cars and motorbikes and sometimes violate driving rules, causing several deaths, injuries and material damage.
Regarding the visit, he said that it made it possible to see the difficulties the region is facing, through a detailed supervision of the main infrastructures, especially the military infirmary, the canteen and the construction work on the barracks.
"The minister made a statement and promised that he would do something to improve both the living conditions of the troops and the infrastructure", he emphasised.
Regarding the possibility of building a military hospital from scratch, although he didn't give a date for the start, he said that the provincial government had already given him the land, located in the Tucuve neighbourhood, with drinking water and electricity.
This is the first official visit by the minister since the former V Military Motorised Infantry Division was elevated to the category of Southeast Military Region.
