Luanda – Angola Woman Network (Rede Mulher Angola) on Wednesday in Luanda presented the second phase of the project “Political Participation of Women in Democratic Governance”, which aims to ensure gender mainstreaming in the institutionalization of local authorities.

The initiative also aims at gender mainstreaming in legislative, political and governance processes, as well as improving the legal, political and institutional framework and its processes and procedures, in view of current challenges, as well as discussing the importance of decentralization policies and processes.

This position was reinforced during a conference in which the members discussed the role of political parties and the Group of Women Parliamentarians in facilitating legislative and political processes.

“Women in leadership positions”, “Perspectives for the inclusion of young women in political processes” and “The generational transition in party and civil society organizations” were among the topics discussed.

The Secretary of State for Family and Women's Promotion, Alcina Lopes da Cunha Kindanda congratulated Rede Mulher Angola for choosing the theme, given its importance for the promotion of public policies, as well as for inclusion and equality between men and women for a fairer and more inclusive society, without any discrimination, prejudice and stigmata.

“This conference represents an important step towards the integration of gender issues in legislative, political and governance processes”, underlined the Secretary of State, praising the role of Rede Mulher Angola, in partnership with MASFAMU, in the empowerment of woman.

The representative of the United Nations Organization in Angola, Zahira Virani, considered the project of political participation of women in democratic governance as a very important initiative for promoting the principle of equality and ensuring democratic and inclusive governance.

In the same vein, the vice-president of the MPLA, Luísa Damião, highlighted the importance of the event, underlining that Angola has taken solid and safe steps in this direction so that the UN recommendations on gender policy are achieved by 2030.

In this sense, she said, several civil society organizations have been working and organizing themselves to meet this goal of the Executive, which through the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Women's Promotion has coordinated this issue. ECC/MDS/SC/DOJ
