Luanda - Approximately five thousand complaints have been submitted to the Ombudsman's office from January to September this year, in contrast to more than seven thousand cases recorded last year.
The figures were presented by the Ombudswoman, Florbela Araújo, after the audience the National Assembly Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, granted to the Ombudsman of the Lazio Region and coordinator of the Ombudsman of the Italian Republic, Marino Fardelli.
According to Florbela Araújo, among these, the most important were those relating to procedural delays, social security and land disputes, underlining that the number of complaints has been increasing since 2021, as a result of the citizen's awareness on these matters.
Florbela Araújo, who was coy on the figures, said the rate of excessive pre-trial detention has fallen substantially, having raised the possibility of signing a cooperation agreement with Italy next year for the defense of citizens' fundamental rights and another with the National Assembly Human Rights Commission.
The Italian Ombudsman on his turn, called on citizens to take greater advantage of the Ombudsman's Office, taking into account that it is free of charge and citizens are entitled to defend their rights, underlining that the main objective of the meeting was to broaden partnership regarding citizens' rights.
