Lubango - The president of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSMJ), Joel Leonardo on Monday highlighted the practical effect of the courts of appeal on procedural speed.

The president of the Supreme Court, who was speaking at a courtesy meeting with the governor of Huíla, Nuno Mahapi, pointed out that the intention is to bring justice closer and closer to the citizen, which is why the courts of appeal were instituted.

He declared that the practical effect, today, is that the appeal, instead of going to the Supreme Court, goes to the Court of Appeal, a positive step towards procedural speed.

'Today the processes that took place in Quilengues, Tômbwa, Cuando Cubango and in more distant locations no longer go to Luanda. It is an important gain the entry into operation of the courts of appeal', he said.

He admitted that, increasingly, doors are being opened for external relations, as the courts cannot walk in isolation, and one of the routes is academia, which is why he participates in the scientific days of the Mandume ya Ndemufayo University (UMN).

In turn, the governor of Huíla, Nuno Mahapi, stressed that the province is stable, with the judges received in August.

The president of the Supreme Court is on a two-day visit to the Judicial Province of Huíla. In addition to the meeting he held with the governor of Huíla, he will give a master class on the 'Evolution of the Angolan Judicial System', at UMN.

According to the program, the judge will swear in the new presiding judge of the Lubango District Court, Irineu Máquina, as well as the one of the Lubango Court of Appeal, Bento Domingos Camenhe.

There will be separate meetings with magistrates and judicial staff and a visit to the facilities of the Court of Appeal of Lubango. EM/MS/DOJ
