Luanda - Angolan head of state João Lourenço concluded on Saturday his official visit to Guinea, with a meeting with former Guinean military officers who fought in Angola.
During the two-day visit, the Angolan Head of State was decorated by his counterpart Alpha Condé with the Grand National Order of the Republic of Guinea, the country's highest decoration.
The two heads of State had a private meeting in which they reviewed the political, peace and security situation in Southern and Western Africa.
As part of the visit, the governments of Angola and Guinea signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations, a document that paves the way for the 2nd session of the Joint Commission due to take place in November, in Conakry.
In the Guinean capital, President João Lourenço thanked the Guinean people for their support during the struggle for national liberation of Angola.
He also called for the liberalisation of patents on vaccines against the new coronavirus, in order to increase production and reduce prices.
Following the visit, Angola's Foreign Minister, Téte António, said that the areas for cooperation were agriculture, health, mining and defence and security.
In terms of defence, the minister noted that Angola was contributing to the training of Guinean officials.
