Luanda – President João Lourenço learned on Wednesday about the work carried out by the Forum of Inspectors General of the State of Africa (FIGE) for the correct use of public finances.

The Head of State received a delegation from FIGE taking part in the 9th General Assembly of this organization in Luanda, during which Angola will assume its rotating presidency.

Speaking to the press, the outgoing FIGE president, German Kiamba, said the organization's challenge continues to be to raise awareness among African executives, especially those responsible for state administration, about respect for public finances.

German Kiamba said member states should promote practices that enable state money to be directed towards the integral development and benefit of the people.

“As state inspectors-general, we have a mission to protect the finances that the state collects so that they are actually put to good use, because there are people who channel them to improper ends,” he stressed.

The Inspector General of the Angolan State Administration, João Pinto, who takes up FIGE's two-year mandate, highlighted the fact that the members are focused on sharing experience in the correct use of public finances, respect for legality and transparency.

FIGE is a platform created in 2006 in Djibouti with the aim of strengthening exchanges and cooperation between African states on internal administrative control.

It aims to guarantee the standardization of the inspection procedures of the continent's top internal control bodies, an institution that Angola has been a member of since 2009.

With the rotating presidency of FIGE, the State Administration Inspectorate should take the opportunity to reaffirm Angola’s position in relation to the challenges of repressing various crimes, with emphasis on corruption and money laundering, matters widely addressed by the institution. ART/TED/AMP
