Luanda – Angolan head of State João Lourenço is attending via videoconference the Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the International Conference on Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) this Friday.
new executive secretary of ICGLR, after his recent election by the organisation's Council of Ministers, on a proposal from Angola.
The Angolan diplomat, who was the only candidate, is taking over from the Congolese Zachary Muburi-Muita.
João Samuel Caholo, 64, is geologist engineer and has served Angolan diplomacy for over 20 years.
From his long and extensive diplomatic experience, the functions of Deputy Executive Secretary for Regional Integration of SADC (2009-2013) and those of Deputy Executive Secretary of the same organization (2005-2009) stand out.
He has also worked for the African Union and the European Union, in all member states of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and in other countries on the African, American, Asian and European continents.
In addition to Angola, ICGLR comprises Burundi, Republic of Congo (president of the organisation), Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
