Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, recently said that the Angolan Government has been working for the US to invest in Angola, as well as having the US market as a destination for Angolan investment.
In an interview with the US newspaper The New York Times, published on Thursday, to address the visit of US President Joe Biden, from 2 to 4 December, he asserted that, for this purpose, this trip by the US counterpart is essential.
Asked what he expects from President Biden's visit, he replied that it sends a signal of confidence to US business and is a way to invite US businessmen to invest in various sectors of the country's economy.
'So far, the U.S. investment we've had is only focused on the oil and gas industry. We hope that with his arrival, there can be a diversification of U.S. investment in the various areas of our own economy,' he reinforced.
On the election of Donald Trump, President João Lourenço said that the change in the US presidency does not worry Angola, as what has to be done is to work 'with those who are in power'.
'My view is that he deserves the trust of U.S. voters. And it is with him that Angola and all the countries of the world will have to work if they want to maintain relations with the United States', the Head of State reasoned.
Regarding the Lobito corridor, the President made it clear that it will serve to export minerals in the interest of African countries, in addition to serving for the flow of agricultural products and facilitating the installation of industries.
Asked about the debt with China, he said that Angola is aware that having this debt linked to oil is disadvantageous for the country, but is keeping its word.
'If you asked me now if I would have to take a new loan under the same conditions, I would say no,' he clarified.
During the interview, the Angolan President also said that the world is not made up of just two countries, so Angola also has political, economic and diplomatic relations with most countries in the world. ART/DOJ
