Ondjiva - The National Police in the southern province of Cunene have reinforced the patrolling of Angola-Namibia border, to prevent the entry of immigrants, as it is closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The province of Cunene shares a border of 460 kilometres with the Republic of Namibia, 340 of which are land-border and 120 river-based.

The Border Guard Police, in Cunene, have means of day and night visualization, BSKE detention system and monitoring drones, to ensure border security.

The means make it possible to monitor places on the borders where the forces are unable to reach, which makes it possible to carry out the operational services through information captured by the equipment, thus reducing physical effort.

In a statement given to ANGOP last Thursday, the spokesman for the National Police in Cunene, quartermaster Nicolau Tuvekalela, said that the forces use these technological means to prevent border violations by foreign citizens.

He reported that in 2020, 670 violations were registered at the border, less 1,109 compared to the previous year.

The spokesman explained that, as a result of these transgressions, 7. 024 national citizens and 650 foreigners were detained and questioned.

Nicolau Tuvekalela said that 77 tourmaline stones, 12, 999 kilograms of various food items, 5 213 plastic items, 800 hunting gun cartridges, 11 vehicles and 7 950 liters of fuel were seized.
