Mbanza Kongo - The Attorney General's Office (PGR) in Angola’s northern province of Zaire is struggling with a shortage of magistrates, a situation that has created constraints in dealing with criminal cases.

The information was provided this Friday to the press, by the prosecutor of the Republic at the District of Mbanza Kongo, Luciano Wombili Daniel, at the end of assess visit that a group of parliamentarians from the provincial circle made to that institution.

According to the prosecutor, currently, the PGR in the region has 18 magistrates only, distributed across the municipalities of Mbanza Kongo and Soyo.

It should be noted that the province of Zaire has an estimated population of more than 600,000 inhabitants, in six municipalities, 25 communes and 711 villages.

The lack of a coroner and a criminal laboratory, as well as its own facilities were also pointed out as difficulties that the Attorney General's Office in the province is experiencing.

'Despite these concerns, the PGR professionals in the region do everything to deal with the processes that enter the institution,' he said.

The visit of the resident deputies also extended to the premises of the General Tax Administration (AGT).

At the end of the visit, the coordinator of the group of resident Members of the Parliament, Pedro Tanda, promised to advocate with the competent bodies so that the difficulties presented are resolved in the coming days.

The parliamentary delegation was made up of four members, out of the five residents. DMN/JL/DOJ
