Ndalatando – A total of 1,347 criminal lawsuits were filed in 2023, in the province of Cuanza-Norte, by the Attorney General's Office (PGR), representing 225 cases more than last year.
The data were released this Wednesday, in Ndalatando City, in statements to ANGOP, by the Cuanza-Norte Province’s Chief Prosecutor, Maria Pedro.
She clarified that 2,299 people were accused of several crimes, including 17 public managers that were accused in the same period, 492 more compared to the previous period.
Maria Pedro reported that of these criminal cases, 946 were sent to trial, with emphasis on 832 common, 92 summary and 22 special or abbreviated cases.
The 17 accusation cases, she highlighted, involving public managers have already entered the court, but have not yet gone to trial, given their complexity.
Chief Prosecutor Maria Pedro explained that the current Penal Code grants defendants the right to file appeals even during the pre-trial phases.
Once filed before trial, she said, the cases go to the higher courts for consideration and decision, suspending their progress.
