Icolo e Bengo – Vice President Esperança da Costa said Friday that the Angolan government has been studying ways to make the Quissama National Park more attractive for tourists, as well as to turn it into a great contributor to the country’s economic diversification process.

The politician said so to journalists in the end of a visit she made to the referred Nature Reserve spot. She deemed the park a place with high biodiversity and great echological environment which is favourable for the development of the fauna.

Thus, the Vice President defended more investment in the said infrastructure, upgrading training for the technicians of the institution, as well as improvements in the inspection and protection work, considering the extension of the site.

To Esperança da Costa, the fact that the park has 9.600 sqaure kilometres of extension, coupled with its tourism potential and geography (close to the capital), represents high possibility of becoming a great contributor to the State’s revenues.

On the other hand, she stressed the importance of including the community in the works turned to the preservation and conservation of biodiversity, taking advantage of its members’ knowledge of the local varied species.

She also seized the occasion to appeal to journalists to step up information on the issue, helping to mobilise the society and raise awareness.

The Quissama National Park is located 75 kilometres off the country’s capital. It receives 500 tourists a week, both domestic and foreign visitors.
