Accra - Debates surrounding the budget of the African Union (AU) were highlighted this Thursday, during the first day of the work of the 45th session of the Executive Council of this organization, which runs until Friday, in the city of Accra, Ghana.

According to the Angolan minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, in statements to the press, without going into deep details on the subject, this is one of the organization's greatest challenges.

He highlighted that, for the year 2025, the contribution level will be the same as the current year, and this is already a closed matter.

He also added that this topic will be presented by Angola, through the minister of Finance, Vera Daves.

The minister informed that the council also looked at the Peace Fund, which the States recognized as having made significant progress, and that it was already at the contributions stage, although they were still insufficient to meet the current challenges.

Téte António said that, in this area, there are different proposals, including that of contributions in local currencies, but up to a certain limit.

In the different approaches, he highlighted, the idea of the need for audits of the organization's finances was evident, so that the use of its funds is in accordance with the rules.

"This is one of Angola's positions so that procedures be followed, in order to avoid many requests that have been made for additional funds from the organization", The minister said.

The Executive Council is made up of Ministers of Foreign Affairs or other ministers or authorities designated by the governments of the Member States and has the mission of, among others, making decisions on policies in areas of common interest for the Member States, and is also responsible to the Assembly.
