Luanda - The newly appointed three advisers to the President of the Republic promised to permanently contribute to peace and national reconciliation.

The President João Lourenço swore in Thursday the leaders of the opposition UNITA Adalberto Costa Júnior and of FNLA parties Nimi A Simbi as members of the Council of Republic.

Also joined the list was the veteran politician, Jorge Valentim.

Speaking to the press, the president of the main opposition UNITA party pledged to do his best to contribute to stability, peace and development.

As for the 2022-election, the politician said that it was crucial the process takes place in an environment of full tranquility, through institutional dialogue, to ensure a future of stability.

He called for the need to improve the plurality of communication.

In his turn, the opposition FNLA leader, Nimi A Simbi, said that he will support ideas that contribute to democracy and the improvement of the people’s living standards.

He defended the need to adopt some "courageous measures", aimed to reverse the current social framework, having stressed the importance to work on the internal stability of his party, after a 20-year long crisis.

While, Jorge Valentim, 84, proposed to work hard on consolidation of peace and national reconciliation.

He vowed to contribute to the progress of Angola, having urged the Angolans to work toward placing the country at fore-front.

Addressing a swearing-in ceremony, the President of Republic João Lourenço said he hoped  the new members to convey their experience and knowledge, particularly in this crucial year of the general elections.

Under the Constitution of the Republic of Angola, the Council of Republic is a Collegiate Advisory Body of the Head of State.

Also Thursday, João Lourenço swore in the new extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Angola to Côte d'Ivoire, Domingos Bernardo Feliciano Pacheco.
