Chibia – At least six million dollars will be invested in the municipality of Chibia, Huíla province, in social actions of the Project to Strengthen Governance to Improve the provision of Services in Angola “Njila”.

The Angolan State project aims to develop and implement systems and approaches for better access and provision of services at local level, strengthening the financial capacity of municipalities and was launched in January of this year, in Luanda.

Njila has global financing of 250 million dollars from the World Bank, for a period of four years and in the pilot phase it covers four regions and 58 municipalities, including Chibia.

When speaking about the matter this Thursday, its national coordinator, Santinho Figueira, during a meeting with the administrator of Chibia, Cunha Velho, stated that the amount will be invested in actions to be identified by the local administration in various areas, as long as are within the portfolio of government initiatives.

He mentioned that it was a test carried out by the Government of Angola regarding decentralization and the deconcentration of competences and for everyone involved in the initiative.

In general, there are no limitations in terms of the type of projects, said the person in charge, noting that everything will depend on the needs of each municipality.

He stated that a more detailed presentation is currently being made on the municipalities that will benefit and a local diagnosis, so a team from the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights has already been to Chibia to identify registration posts and other institutions to carry out the project .

In turn, the administrator of Chibia, Sérgio da Cunha Velho, expressed satisfaction at the fact that his residents had benefited, which will help to significantly mitigate the community's problems.

The first region comprises the provinces of Uíge and Luanda, the second, Benguela and Cuanza Sul, the third Huambo and Bié and the fourth, Huíla and Cunene.

In Huíla, Njila covers 10 municipalities, namely Caconda, Cacula, Caluquembe, Chibia, Chicomba, Humpata, Jamba, Lubango, Matala and Quipungo, while Cunene is Cahama, Cuanhama, Namacunde and Ombadja.

The project aims to progressively contribute to the state's local autonomy, increasing the amount and reliability of fiscal transfers to the 58 selected municipalities in the eight provinces and strengthening financial and land management capacity, as well as increasing identity and civil registration coverage.
