Luanda - The Cuban Head of State, Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, considered, this Monday, Agostinho Neto, first President of Angola, and the Cuban leader Fidel Castro, as personalities that laid the foundations of friendship and cooperation between the two peoples and countries.

In a tribute to the first President of Angola, the president of the Republic of Cuba said that Agostinho Neto was a reference for contemporary African history in the fight against colonialism and for its development.

“Eternal glory to the memory of leader Agostinho Neto”, wrote Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez in the memorial book at Dr. António Agostinho Neto mausoleum.

Earlier, Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez visited the different areas of the museum, which contains a vast collection and gallery about the first President of Angola, and finally placed a wreath of flowers on his sarcophagus.

The Cuban President has been in Angola in a state visit since Sunday, as part of the strengthening of bilateral relations.

During his stay in Angola, Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez fulfilled an intense agenda, which includes, among others, a meeting with his counterpart João Lourenço.

The Cuban president also witnessed the signing of agreements between delegations from both countries and participated in a solemn session in the National Assembly.

Angola and Cuba maintain excellent cooperation relations in various areas such as security, education, health, transport, public works, construction, oil, sports, culture, tourism, and agriculture.

The two States established diplomatic relations on November 15, 1975, four days after Angola's independence, and a year later they signed the General Cooperation Agreement, which gave rise to the Bilateral Commission.

This Caribbean State has trained many Angolan staff and aspires to greater involvement in economic cooperation with Angola, the country it supported in the war against the apartheid regime in South Africa.
