Ramiros- The newly elected secretary of the ruling MPLA in Luanda, Luis Nunes, on Wednesday called on party activists to unite in order to regain the confidence of voters in Luanda, the country's largest electoral centre.

Speaking at the party's Extraordinary Conference, which elected him as first provincial secretary of the MPLA in Luanda, replacing Manuel Homem, the politician requested the grassroots’ support to achieve this goal.

Luís Nunes emphasised that it will be a job of great dedication and sacrifice that will bring encouraging results ‘to bring back the MPLA in the country's largest electoral arena’.

The governor of Luanda also recognized that the province has many social difficulties and promised to use all methods of governance to resolve the concerns of the citizens.

The outgoing first secretary of the MPLA in Luanda, Manuel Homem, on his turn expressed his willingness to collaborate with his successor in order to regain political hegemony in Luanda.

The 9th Extraordinary Conference of the MPLA in Luanda was chaired by the party's secretary-general, Paulo Pombolo, who challenged Luis Nunes to combine party political work to turn Luanda into a city of the future that balances growth, social justice and environmental sustainability.

Luis Nunes, former governor of Benguela, was elected first secretary of the MPLA in Luanda with 2105 votes in favor, out of a total of 2125 voters. AKA/DC/DAN/AMP
