Luanda - The MPLA Central Committee called for the party's VIII Extraordinary Congress to be held on the 6th and 7th of December this year.
According to the Final Communiqué of the III Extraordinary Meeting of the Central Committee, the meeting urged party members, friends and supporters to engage with dynamism and responsibility "in the preparation of this important event".
The document, read by the party's spokesperson, Esteves Hilário, emphasizes that the Central Committee effusively welcomed the efforts of the Executive led by President João Lourenço, in the construction of foreign policy with a view to the promotion and prestige of the country, attracting investments and the strengthening peace and security in Africa and the world.
The meeting, which took place at the Belas Conference Center, in Luanda, considered and approved, with amendments, resolutions to fill vacancies in the Central Committee and the general bases for the party's VIII Extraordinary Congress.
It also approved the schedule of actions for Congress and the structure of the thesis "MPLA - from Independence to Our Days: The Future Challenge”.
According to the party's spokesperson, Esteves Hilário, the meeting also approved the composition of the National Preparatory Commission, the working subcommittees, the regulations of the National Preparatory Commission, and the general and internal programs of the Congress.
The members of the Central Committee, the body responsible for convening ordinary and extraordinary party congresses, also approved the resolution on the extinction and creation of party bodies and organizations in the new provinces, municipalities and communications in light of the new Political-Administrative Division of the Republic of Angola.
The meeting, chaired by MPLA President, João Lourenço, also received information on the state of preparation for the 9th Ordinary Congress of the JMPLA (ruling party's youth wing), taking place in November this year.
Esteves Hilário clarified a few days ago, during the MPLA Political Bureau meeting, that the Extraordinary Congress is not elective because mandates in the party last five years, which means that mandates are only renewed at ordinary congresses, the next one will only take place in 2026.
The Extraordinary Congress in December will make a comprehensive assessment of 50 years of national independence.
