Luanda - The Minister of the Interior (MININT), Eugénio Laborinho, called on Wednesday to political parties to refrain from serving as vehicles and instigators of acts that change public order, as well as from promoting hatred, slander and defamation against public and private entities.

The minister, who made this appeal during a meeting he held with the president of the Bloco Democratico political party, Filomeno Vieira Lopes, said that everyone must contribute to a healthy, harmonious and peaceful environment, which is why actions to maintain public order must continue to count on the cooperation of the entire society.

He acknowledged that, unfortunately, in the performance of their duty, officers sometimes make mistakes, some of which culminate in the loss of human lives.

He said that whenever circumstances require it, disciplinary and criminal investigations are opened against those involved, and measures are applied according to specific cases.

"We have in the country's penitentiaries convicted of military and common crimes, in addition to those who were expelled from the force for misconduct", he stressed. As an example, he said that the National Police, as the MININT body with the largest staff, expelled 46 officers in 2023 and 32 in the first half of this year, demonstrating its respect for the Angolan Constitution, as well as promoting and defending human rights and the exercise of citizenship.

The minister expressed his conviction that the political party led by Filomeno Vieira Lopes will continue to advocate an environment of good coexistence between its members, citizens and between them and the National Police, in addition to other Defence and Security Bodies.

He stated that he counts on the support of the Democratic Bloc in awareness-raising actions among citizens, so that they refrain from acts of disobedience to the authorities, physical aggression, and vandalism of public and private property. FMA/ART/TED/DOJ
