Luanda - The Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, handed over,on Tuesday, in Harare, the rotating presidency of the Council of Ministers of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), to his Zimbabwean counterpart, Frederick Shava.

The act took place during the body’s meeting taking place on August 13 to 14 in Zimbabwe, which precedes the 44th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government on August 17.

According to a press release, the meeting held under the motto: “Promoting Innovation to Fully Explore Opportunities for Sustainable Economic Growth and Development Towards an Industrialized SADC”, will also serve for President João Lourenço to end Angola's rotating presidency in organization.

The Council of Ministers meeting is analyzing the progress made in the implementation of various decisions aimed at materializing regional integration and assess the level of implementation of the organization's Indicative Strategic Development Plan and Strategy and Roadmap for Industrialization, among other matters.

Angola is expected to hand over the SADC's rotating presidency to Zimbabwe on August 17t, during the organization's 44th Summit of Heads of State and Government, with President João Lourenço expected to be replaced by his Zimbabwean counterpart, Emmerson Mnangagwa.

 SADC is an organization made up of 16 Member States, created in 1980 as the Southern African Development Coordination Conference (SADCC) and later, in August 1992, transformed into the Southern African Development Community.

SADC's mission is to promote sustainable and equitable growth and socio-economic development through efficient production systems, deeper cooperation and integration, good governance and lasting peace and security, so that the Region can emerge as a competitive and effective actor in international relations and the world economy.

It is made up of Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. FMA/VIC/TED/AMP
