Rome – Angola’s minister of Foreign Affairs Téte António said Tuesday the visit of the Angolan President João Lourenço to Italy will boost bilateral cooperation, and described the move as very dynamic.

“We want to deepen this relationship with Italy, and the president João Lourenço’s visit is, indeed, the highest point of our historical relationship”, the Angolan top diplomat told the press in Roma, Italy.

The Angolan head of State João Lourenço arrived Tuesday in the European country for a two-day visit, at the invitation of his counterpart, Sergio Mattarella.

The minister noted that João Lourenço´s visit boosts the good relations between the two countries. Italy was the first Western country to recognise Angola’s Independence.

“Italy has always been on our side. Even in the most difficult times of our history”, he noted.

The diplomat stressed the country’s focus on economic reforms towards the diversification of its economy and extending cooperation with international partners.

The minister praised the bilateral relations between the African and the European countries.

According to data from the Angolan authorities, the Angolan government´s investment in the diversification of the economy has been an opportunity to foster cooperation between Italy and Angola.

These include the sectors of agriculture, fisheries, mineral resources, oil and gas, trade, industry, energy, water, transport, as well as in the fields of national defence and the veterans of the fatherland, culture, tourism, and the environment.
