Luanda – Angola’s Minister of Interior Eugênio Laborinho on Tuesday defended the need to strengthen operational activities of the national police to reduce crime rates in the country.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed police commissioners, the minister said the reinforcement must be in coordination with local governments, organized civil society and citizens.

The minister urged the population to denounce perpetrators and masterminds of violent crimes, illicit trafficking of strategic minerals among other crimes.

The minister pointed to youth crime, committed with bladed weapons and other weapons, as another worrying case, having appealed to neighborhood policing actions to be strengthened, with the aim of educating the population to acquire a culture of denunciation.

According to the minister, people need to be vigilant, taking into account that most of the crimes occur within the family and are committed by people close to them.

Internet

Cyber-crime was also mentioned by the minister, who asked for updates in the area of Information and Communication Technologies to help the police and justice bodies to prevent and combat cyber-crime.

Firefighters

The Civil Protection and Firefighters have been given a new dynamic in order to provide swift and effective assistance to victims, especially on road accidents, shipwrecks, floods and other disasters, as well as international commitments.

The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, appointed recently several commissioners of the National Police, the Criminal Investigation Service and generals and admirals of the Angolan Armed Forces. VIC/DAN/AMP
