Malanje - The northern Malanje Province will gain a new modern General Hospital to replace the current one that is found in a very poor state of decay to provide assistance to patients, President João Lourenço announced on Thursday.
"The commitment remains. We're going to build a new modern hospital in Malanje, like other provinces", said João Lourenço in Malanje at the end of a meeting with the provincial government.
The Head of State added that the possibility of rehabilitating the current Malanje General Hospital was raised, "but it's in such a state of degradation that it's difficult to carry out an in-depth intervention with patients inside".
To get around the situation, according to the president, it has been decided the building of an annex area, which will include the emergency room, operating theatres, sterilisation units and hospital oxygen production.
"This can start now, while in a period of two to three years we will build the new Malanje General Hospital, whose foundation stone has already been laid" Lourenço said.
The president added that once the new General Hospital has been completed, the current one will be thoroughly remodeled “and in this way, the province will end up having two reference hospital units”.
João Lourenço announced that the government will also invest in the construction of primary and secondary hospitals in the remaining municipalities of the province.
The president added that a number of problems were raised during the meeting with the provincial government, most of which he was aware of, and some of them being resolved.
