Luanda - The National Assembly (AN) will hold its final global vote on Friday on the Anti-Doping in Sport Bill, in order to bring it into line with international regulations.

The information was provided Tuesday, in Luanda Province, by the first secretary of the Parliamentary Bureau, Manuel Lopes Dembo, at the end of the Parliamentary Leaders Conference, chaired by the Speaker of the Parliament, Carolina Cerqueira.

Friday's extraordinary plenary session will have as its sole item the definitive vote on the Anti-Doping in Sport legislation.

The law, which had already been approved by the parliament in March 2024, returns because there was some misalignment between what was provided for in the legislation and what is required by international regulations.

This is a slight adjustment in the misalignments that could lead to international sanctions, including the exclusion of national athletes from international competitions and the loss of opportunities for sporting events of an international nature.

The amendment to the Sports Anti-Doping Law aims to bring national legislation into line with the international standards applicable to the matter, especially the World Anti-Doping Code and the rules of the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA).

The proposal aims to adjust to the national social, cultural and sporting reality, as well as to harmonise it with the International Convention against Doping in Sport and the World Anti-Doping Code.

With the approval of the law, the government wants to continue to promote and conduct a cultural and moral education of citizens, the protection of the health of athletes, support staff and other sports agents, through the fight against the use of prohibited substances and methods or violation of anti-doping rules in sport.

Among other things, the diploma contains the prohibition of doping, the practitioner's responsibilities, the list of prohibited substances and methods, control access during and outside of sports competitions and the medical treatment of sportspeople.
