Luanda – Qatar's Gulf Times newspaper published this month a 28-page supplement on Angola, in which it presents the country, with emphasis on economic, diplomatic, tourist, cultural and sporting aspects.

The supplement is based on articles published in a magazine produced, in English, by the Embassy of Angola in Qatar in association with the Gulf Times.

It states that the Angolan Executive recently approved the ANGOLA Long-Term Strategy – 2050, based on a diversified and prosperous economy, with emphasis on the sectors of agriculture, livestock, fishing, manufacturing industry, mineral resources and tourism, to generate jobs and sustainable income for families.

It indicates that in order to relaunch agriculture and diversify the economy, the Government invested heavily in attracting foreign investment, both public and private, with a view to catapulting the country's multifaceted development, with repercussions on improving the quality of life of Angolans.

In the diplomatic field, it highlights that President João Lourenço has actively prioritized the promotion of peace and stability on the African continent and globally, and that, in his capacity as Champion of the African Union for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa, he has made numerous trips abroad and promoted meetings in Angola, as part of its diplomatic agenda.

As a result of his commitment in this aspect, the President has won the sympathy and encouragement of partners for the prevention and resolution of conflicts in Africa, drawing on his national experience and leadership, within the framework of the now recognized “Angolan Doctrine of Resolution of Conflicts”, acknowledges the publication.

In terms of tourism, the supplement says that the promotion of tourism is one of the Executive's priorities, which has taken several initiatives, such as the measure of exempting citizens from 98 countries from tourist visas to enter Angola, which has allowed greater dynamism of the activity tourism in the country.

Regarding culture, he writes that the long period of war that Angola experienced before and after national independence was not capable of destroying the ancestry of a nation, having shown the world its cultural potential by organizing what is still considered the biggest party today. of national culture, the National Culture Festival (FENACULT), in the 1980s.

As for sport, he highlights that Angola has already shown the world its sporting potential, especially in team sports such as football, basketball and handball, but also in individual disciplines in recent years.

But handball and basketball are, without a doubt, the sports that have achieved the most success on a continental level, in particular, and worldwide, in general.

The publication also makes reference to the new Luanda Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport, considering that it has the potential to boost the growth of national and international air transport, benefiting nearly 415 million people and contributing to the increase in tourism and the capture of foreign investment for Angola, as well as promoting the country's image in the world.

The 3rd edition of the Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace (Luanda Biennial), held in the Angolan capital, from 22 to 24 November 2023, also received mention in the supplement.

Considers that it privileged the sharing of visions on the culture of peace, security, African citizenship, democracy, building more peaceful societies, transforming attitudes and approaches in the political, economic and social domains, to strengthen the pillars of Africa's integral growth.

The magazine on which Gulf Times was based to produce the supplement presents several other facets of Angola, such as the climate, fauna, flora, among other useful information.

In the opening note, the Angolan ambassador to Qatar, António Coelho Ramos da Cruz, states that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2006, a relationship marked by shared values, high-level commitments and a fruitful cooperation in various fields.

“The official visit to Doha by the President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, in September 2019, was a significant milestone.

'During this visit, several cooperation agreements were signed, laying the foundations for a robust bilateral partnership,” the ambassador wrote.

Gulf Times is one of the main newspapers in Qatar, along with Península, but it does not produce supplements.SR/VIC/DOJ
