Luanda – President João Lourenço has congratulated Daniel Francisco Chapo on his election as President of Mozambique, following his victory in the elections held on October 9.

In a message sent Friday to the Mozambican politician, who ran for the FRELIMO party, João Lourenço said he is sure that Daniel Francisco Chapo's victory reflects the will and hope of the Mozambican people in a leadership that actively and dynamically increases all the initiatives capable of promoting the realization of the great interests of the Mozambican nation for the country’s progress, development and prosperity.

The Angolan President also refers to the “acts that sought to tarnish the exemplary process that resulted in the election of Daniel Francisco Chapo”, underlining that he “expects that the Mozambican authorities will be firmly committed to the exemplary punishment of those responsible”.

Finally, President João Lourenço said he expects working together to strengthen the historic bonds of friendship and cooperation that unite Angola and Mozambique, for the benefit of the progress and development of both nations.

Daniel Chapo won the presidential elections in Mozambique with around 4.9 million votes, equivalent to 70.67%.

Venâncio Mondlane was the second most voted presidential candidate with around 1.4 million votes, equivalent to 20.32%.

In third place was Ossufo Momade, with 403.5 votes (5.81%) and in fourth and last place, in terms of presidential elections, was Lutero.
