Luanda - Angolan President João Lourenço met Wednesday in Luanda with his Kenyan counterpart, William Ruto, with whom he assessed bilateral cooperation and issues of regional interest.

This is William Ruto's first working visit to Angolan territory as head of state of the East African country.

No press statements were issued at the end of the meeting held at the Cidade Alta Presidential Palace in the Angolan capital.

William Samoei Arap Ruto arrived in the Angolan capital on Tuesday at the invitation of his counterpart, João Lourenço.

In October 2023, President João Lourenço made his first official state visit to Kenya, a year after William Ruto, who was elected president in 2022.

The Angolan statesman's visit to Kenya resulted in the signing of 11 agreements, especially in the agricultural sector, which accounts for 65% of Kenya's exports, and tourism, which earned William Ruto's country 2 billion euros in 2022, according to figures published by the local Ministry of Tourism.

Bilateral cooperation

Relations between Angola and Kenya have been consolidated in recent years, with the two countries sharing common objectives of sustainable development and strengthening historical ties.

Angola and Kenya have strengthened cooperation in strategic areas such as the economy, energy and diplomacy, promoting bilateral development.

Kenya, with a population of about 45 million and an economy mainly based on agriculture and the export of products such as tea and coffee, remains a strategic partner for Angola in the African context. DC/VIC/AMP
