Luanda – President João Lourenço on Tuesday called for closer cooperation with Turkey and the Czech Republic, in congratulatory messages sent to his counterparts on the anniversary of their independence.

In a congratulatory message sent to his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on the occasion of the 101st anniversary of that country's independence, the Head of State highlights the strong bonds of friendship between the two countries.

In his letter, the Angolan president said he believes there is a “vast field of exchange to be explored” and, as a result, “to extract substantial benefits capable of contributing to the development of both nations”.

Diplomatic relations and cooperation between Angola and Turkey are considered excellent and both governments have made efforts to increase bilateral cooperation in a wide variety of areas.

The two countries cooperate in the areas of air transport, defense, trade, reciprocal investment protection, mining and renewable energies.

Turkey exports wheat, industrial machinery, household appliances, and hospital and health equipment, among other things, to Angola, while the Southern African nation exports wood, ferrous scrap and aluminum.

Czech Republic

In another message sent to the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, also on the occasion of the anniversary of Independence, the Angolan statesman expressed Angola's desire to continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries, which has been revitalized in recent times, with a view to reciprocal benefits.

Relations between the two countries were marked at the highest level earlier this year with President João Lourenço's visit to Prague, at the invitation of his counterpart Petr Pavel.

The official program of this mission included talks between the presidential delegations of the two countries.ART/AMP
