Luanda - The Japanese authorities have approved a loan of around 2 million US dollars for electrification in southern Angola, the president of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency, Tanaka Akihiko, said Friday in Luanda.
Tanaka Akihiko disclosed the information at the end of an audience granted to him by the Angolan Head of State João Lourenço adding that the agreement to formalize the funding could be signed soon.
Tanaka Akihiko said that the approval of the funding has already been notified to the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He explained that during the audience with the president, issues related to education and health had been discussed, underlining that president João Lourenço has prioritized staff training, although the modalities are still to be established.
President João Lourenço visited Japan in 2019, during the Japan/Africa summit, and made a state visit in 2023.
Bilateral cooperation between Angola and Japan began in 1988 with emergency aid through the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
The two countries cooperate in several sectors such as agriculture, demining, water, electricity and communication networks, with a focus on basic infrastructure. JFS/SC/ADR/AMP
