Luanda - The fraternal relations between the Mauritanian and Angolan peoples continue to be strengthened and supported by the real will of the two states and based on mutually beneficial cooperation in the mining, oil, fishing and agricultural sectors, said the Mauritanian Ambassador to Angola, Ebde Mohamed, on Wednesday.

The diplomat, who was speaking on the occasion of the 64th anniversary of his country's independence, thanked President João Lourenço and the Angolan government for the warm welcome they have always extended to Mauritanian citizens.

The Ambassador highlighted the wisdom, success and diplomatic skills of the Angolan Head of State in resolving armed conflicts in the Great Lakes region and described the cooperation between the two countries as very fruitful.

Ebde Mohamed recalled that the achievements made since 1960 and the remarkable progress made in the fight against poverty, injustice and exclusion remain at the forefront of his country's national policy.

According to the diplomat, the government's commitment to actions aimed at ensuring the progress and development of the homeland, on which the aspirations of the people are based, in tribute to the sacrifices made by the brave resistance fighters, contributed to the birth of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

The Counselor of the Mauritanian Embassy in Angola, Souleymane Diallo, expressed feelings of pride, fraternity and joy at the celebration of the date in the presence of personalities linked to the diplomatic corps accredited in Angola, the Mauritanian community and the Angolan authorities.

Angola and Mauritania enjoy excellent political and diplomatic relations, established in 1987 and strengthened in 2007.

The two nations look forward to strengthening relations based on South-South cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of both countries, especially in the current global dynamics.

Relations between the two countries are characterized by political and diplomatic cooperation within international organizations, as well as occasional efforts to strengthen bilateral ties.

Both are African nations with a common interest in promoting stability, sustainable development and regional integration on the continent.

One of the most important aspects of the bilateral relationship is the cooperation between Angola and Mauritania in multilateral forums such as the African Union and the United Nations on issues such as security, human rights and development.

In the area of security, Mauritania is an important player in the Sahel, while Angola contributes to stability in southern Africa. Both are interested in addressing challenges such as extremism and regional conflicts. DF/JM/DC/AMP
