Bailundo – Angola’s minister of Public Works and Spatial Planning Manuel Tavares de Almeida reaffirmed Friday in Bailundo, central Huambo province, the Government's commitment to building cities with quality of life and human dignity.
He announced the Executive’s plans to transform the territory into resilient, inclusive and environmentally friendly cities.
The minister made such statements shortly after the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, had inaugurated and unveiled the plaque for the Halavala housing project, in the municipality of Bailundo, with three thousand and five residences.
He explained that the cities, with integrated infrastructure, within the scope of the National Urbanism and Housing Programme, demonstrate the Angolan Government's ability to improve the housing supply.
Manuel Tavares de Almeida said that the Halavala project, which has just opened, will serve more than 21,000 inhabitants.
He added that the project generated more than 3,000 direct jobs during its construction.
The satellite city also includes 210 commercial establishments, green spaces, support infrastructure, namely the electrical substation, system for capturing, distributing and reservoir for drinking water and wastewater treatment.
Reference was also made to the existence of a health centre, kindergartens, a children's centre, two schools and a professional technical institute, a police station, a football field and other leisure sites.
This is the third housing project of its kind built in the province of Huambo, after Lossambo, inaugurated in 2017, with 2009 houses, occupied by more than 14,000 people, and Fernando Faustino Muteka, available since 2020, in the municipality of Caála, with 4001 residences and expected to accommodate 28,000 inhabitants.
