Luanda – The Member of the Angolan Parliament (MP), Francisco Gentil Viana, asked the National Assembly Speaker to resign from the UNITA parliamentary group and become an independent parliamentarian.
In the letter sent to the parliament Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, the MP alleges that he has difficulties in developing his political activity in the National Assembly as an independent deputy (for the United Patriotic Front - FPU) in the UNITA parliamentary group (Angola largest opposition party).
"It turns out that, as an independent entity, I have some difficulty in making understanding our civil society strategy, because every time I speak, people take me as a UNITA parliamentarian and I am unable to follow up on a work that should not be done in the name of UNITA," he said.
The deputy said he disagrees with the proposal for a model of local elections recently presented by the UNITA parliamentary group.
Francisco Viana, who says he is committed to political alternation, noted "that it is time to speak louder and with more propriety, and for this purpose cannot subordinate himself to party strategies".
In the meantime, he expressed his willingness to remain in the United Patriotic Front, which he considered a mature coalition.
The UNITA parliamentary group is meeting today to, among others, analyse the issue surrounding deputy Francisco Viana and take a position.
In this regard, a source from the UNITA parliamentary group considered the arguments presented by deputy Francisco Viana regarding the proposal for a model of local elections to be senseless.
The UNITA source accuses deputy Francisco Viana of allegedly "promiscuing his private business with politics".
