Luanda - The Angolan government on Monday reiterated its commitment to promote a better political-legal environment that favours the development of the Media.
In a statement on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day (3 May), the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Media expresses the wish that this environment allows for the feasibility of the social mission of the press, within universally accepted principles.
The ministerial department reaffirms its commitment to pursue actions to strengthen the sector, and urges professionals to exercise an increasingly competent, rigorous, responsible, impartial and patriotic journalism.
It encourages a journalism that respects the ethics and deontology of the profession and the Law, capable of contributing to the consolidation of the democratic state and the rule of law, national unity, economic and social development and the internalization of patriotic feeling.
According to MINTTICS, the World Press Freedom Day should serve as an incentive to all, so that together they work towards Information, as a Public Good, becoming a reality in the Angolan society.
In its communiqué, it states that information assumed as a Public Good should be translated into the awareness of the need to ensure the economic viability of the media, the transparency of Internet companies and media and information literacy.
It takes up the challenge launched this year by UNESCO, in allusion to the World Press Freedom Day, and states its commitment to continue the efforts to create conditions for Information, as a Public Good, to become a reality in everyone's life.
