Luanda – The Angolan government has been aware to the social needs of the population of Cunene and other provinces in the country, said the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, on Friday.

Speaking to the press, after the inauguration of the General Hospital, Simion Mucune, the Head of State said that the requalification of the integrated infrastructures of the city of Ondjiva had recently been announced.

João Lourenço, who is on a three-day work mission to this province, also pointed out the construction of four structural projects within the scope of the fight against drought, one of which, the Cafu Canal, is already serving the population, and another, the Ndue dam, will be completed this year and will deserve a visit from the statesman next Sunday, to see the progress of the works.

“We have done a lot for Cunene, we cannot do everything at once, we pay particular attention, because of everything it represents”, he stressed.

He recalled that the Government is aware of the population's concerns, but that the needs will be resolved gradually, not all at once.

According to the Head of the Executive, the government will continue to build and modernize infrastructure and healthcare at various levels to keep up with the country's population growth.

He said that the same commitment is being made to the education sector, with the construction of hundreds of schools, including higher education, in order to continue to promote the training of quality professionals.

He also explained that the government has supported the rehabilitation of healthcare infrastructures linked to religious institutions, because they serve the population. As an example, he pointed to the recent rehabilitation of the Missionary Hospital of Caluquembe, in the province of Huíla, and of Voga, in the province of Bié.

The President said that the capacity of these tertiary hospitals that have been opened should be used to house integrated services, since it will not be possible to build specialist hospitals in all of the country's provinces.

He spoke of Angola's intention to hire Namibian doctors to reinforce the staff working at the new hospital in Cunene, as is the case with doctors of other nationalities who provide services in the country, the terms of which have not yet been defined, despite the willingness of both parties.
