Luanda - The Liberia former-president, Ellen Johnson, appealed on Saturday, in Luanda, to African leaders to continuously engage in the pacification of the Great Lakes Region.

For Ellen Johnson, who spoke on the sidelines of the Great Lakes Region Women's High-Level Forum, this engagement must come from all leaders on the continent, regardless of whether they are male or female.

Even so, she recognized that women play a fundamental role in achieving this goal.

"If we look at the participants, we can see that many women are leaders and many of them have played a leading role in the peace process in their countries", she said when asked about the meeting.

All women, Ellen Johnson said, are committed to peace, and they all want to have a more active voice in their countries, as they in general have been fighting for Africa's security and pacification.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner also highlighted that women are truly prepared, tired of just talking and want to take action to achieve peace.

She expressed recognition to President João Lourenço, for his outstanding role in promoting peace, the cause of women and for the solidarity shown.

The Great Lakes Region Women's High-Level Forum, which ended Saturday brought together prominent entities from the African political and social scene, with the aim of debating and proposing solutions to the challenges that women and children face, mainly in conflict zones.
