Luanda - Angola's ambassador to Namibia, Jovelina Imperial, on Wednesday in Windhoek City paid tribute to the memory of Namibian President Hage Geingob, who died last Sunday in his country from an illness.
According to a note to which ANGOP had access, the Angolan diplomat went to the office of the Namibian Prime Minister, Saara Kuugongelwa Amadhila, where she signed a book of condolences, expressing her feelings of sorrow and those of the Angolans living in that neighbouring country.
Jovelina Imperial praised the late President, considering him a great leader who will mark the history of Namibia.
"At this sad time for the government and people of Namibia, on behalf of myself, the Embassy staff and the Angolan community, I would like to convey my deepest condolences and express my deepest sympathy," wrote the ambassador, who was also at the official residence to greet the president's widow, Mônica Geingob, and her family.
On the occasion, the deputy dean of the ambassadors accredited to Namibia noted in her book of condolences that "given the shared history between Angola and Namibia and the extent to which the two countries have achieved together, under the leadership of President Hage Geingob, in elevating bilateral relations, one can be sure that the President will be sorely missed in Angola, Africa and the SADC region".
Hage Gottfried Geingob was the third President of Namibia, a country that gained independence from South Africa on 21 March 1990.
He had previously served as prime minister twice (1990-2002 and 2012-2015), coming to office in March 2015 and being re-elected in 2019.
