Luanda - UNITA's presidential candidate, Adalberto Costa Júnior, reafirmed Saturday the need to respect political differences.

"We’ll treat political adversaries with respect if we win the elections (on August 24)", Adalberto Costa Júnior said at a mass rally in Talatona, Luanda, attended by supporters and friends of his party.

To him, elections are a feast, having reiterated the appeal for citizenship and massive participation in the elections, stressing that it is the "moment to rescue the future".

The politician emphasised the need for plurality in the media, stating that they should continue to be open to all political parties.

The UNITA act of masses was preceded by a motorcade in a caravan through some arteries of the city of Luanda.

Adalberto Costa Júnior transmitted to the supporters of the nine municipalities of Luanda the guidelines of the organisation's governance programme.

In this ambit, UNITA promises to reform the state and improve the quality of the education system, health and access to housing and employment, the promotion of a market economy, eradication of regional asymmetries, and the facilitation of low-interest credit.

Luanda has 4.6 million voters registered from the total of over 14.3 million potential voters.

UNITA obtained 51 parliamentary seats in the 2017 general elections.

This year's elections, which will have the participation of Angolans in the diaspora for the first time, are the fifth in Angola's history, after those in 1992, 2008, 2012 and 2017.
