Mbanza Kongo – The National Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA) is working to recover its position in the Angolan political scene, just like in its heyday of the 1970s, to honour the party's founder, Holden Roberto.
The idea was expressed by the leader of this historic party, Nimi-a-Simbi, when he was speaking at a mass event, in the municipality of Cuimba, northern Zaire Province, in the scope of the general elections set to happen this 24 August. He called for “conscious” vote, with a view to electing five deputies to the Parliament in this province.
In the town of Cuimba, situated 62 kilometres to the northeast of Mbanza Kongo Municipality, the candidate for President of the Republic held meetings with former FNLA guerrillas and local traditional authorities.
During his stay in the locality, Nimi a Simbi clarified the party´s position in the ballot paper, presented the electoral manifesto and the governance programme for the 2022-2022 term.
The FNLA programme for the next five years is based on four key points, namely Agriculture, Health, Education and Public Security.
In the 2017 general elections, the FNLA did not elect a member of parliament in the Zaire constituency.
For the 24 August elections, Zaire Province has 321,781 voters and 259 polling stations.
