Benguela - Election Commissioners are urged to master the law and remain exempted from the parties that appointed them to monitor the process.
The appeal was launched Monday by the head of the National Electoral Commission (CNE) in the coastal Benguela province.
The president of the Provincial Electoral Commission, José Carlos Ndala, who was speaking at the celebration ceremony of 10 new municipal electoral commissioners, said they (commissioners) should obey only the CNE and electoral legislation.
The official added that the commissioners’ role is to monitor, control and supervise the activities related to the election process.
He also said that the Election Law, specifically the disciplinary regulation, stipulates punishment for any member who plays the role in favour of the political party that nominated him, which include the losing of the mandate.
The 10 new commissioners will be distributed across the municipalities of Benguela province.
General elections in Angola will take place on August 24 and 14.3 million voters are expected to cast their ballot.
