Luanda - UNITA reiterated Wednesday its intention to alter the constitution in a way that the President of the Republic and MPs could be elected separately.
The largest opposition party's president, Adalberto Costa Junior, who was speaking at a mass rally in Bié Province, said that if his political organisation wins the elections, it will promote constitutional changes, also with a view to reducing what he considered "excessive power of the President of the Republic".
The implementation of local governments is also a priority of UNITA's governance programme, and Adalberto Costa Junior reiterated his message in this sense.
The UNITA leader said that after winning the August 24 elections, his party will re-introduce its proposed Law of Capital Repatriation, a draft-law whicht the party presented in 2017 but was not approved by the National Assembly (parliament).
The Constitution of the Republic of Angola assigns the President and one third of the 220 deputies that constitute the National Assembly, in full exercise of their duties, the initiative to revise the Constitution.
