Dundo - The "Lunda Tchokwe" king, Mwene Mwatchissengue Wa-tembo, on Wednesday called for civic attitude, tolerance and healthy coexistence among Angolans, during and after the 24 August elections.
The King Mwatchissengue, who was speaking to Angop, ahead of the upcoming elections, said the move is meant to consolidate national unity and peace.
The sovereign Tchokwe expressed optimism that the people of Angola will show an example of civic attitude and tolerance in this polls, as happened in 2017, avoiding behaviour that might disrupt democratic state and the rule of law.
The king urged the Angolans to show and prove to the world that regardless of the political party conviction, the unity and national reconciliation is a fact.
"We must not forget that after the elections the country continues and will need the contribution of all of us to continue moving on the path of development. Therefore, I call on Angolans to preserve the unity, reconciliation, and peace through tolerance and respect for difference," he said.
After appealing to the voters to avoid abstention on the voting day, the king also urged everyone to remain indoors, waiting for the results.
To the competing political parties, Mwatchissengue Wa-tembo advised them to deliver speeches that promote peace and political stability.
Roughly 14.3 million voters, including 22,560 residing abroad will vote in the general elections.
