Luanda – The president of the Social Renewal Party (PRS), Benedito Daniel, this Monday urged the militants of the political parties competing in the general elections set to happen this August 24 to be imbued with political tolerance.

In the airtime of his political organisation, on the Public Television of Angola (TPA), the politician advised his militants against reacting to provocations of political opponents, for the benefit of the country’s democracy.

According to Benedito Daniel, there is some political intolerance from some militants from other parties, which he did not reveal, who place their flags at the PRS headquarters in the municipality of Dala, Lunda Sul Province.

The head of the PRS list, thus its presidential candidate, praised the role played by the authorities of Lunda Sul, who facilitated the normal holding of the party’s rally in this province.

The general elections, to happen this August 24, have the participation of seven political parties, namely MPLA, UNITA, PRS, FNLA, APN, PHA and P-NJANGO (the last two for the first time) and the CASA-CE Coalition.

Over 14.3 million voters, of which 22,560 are abroad, are expected to cast ballots.

The Angolan diaspora will debut voting in these fifth elections in Angola’s history, after those in 1992, 2008, 2012 and 2017.

The PRS was founded on 18 November 1990 and its first president was Eduardo Kuangana, who led the party for 27 years.

In the first election, in 1992, the party won six seats in the National Assembly. In 2008 it got eight parliamentary seats.

In 2012, the PRS saw its parliamentary bench reduced to three seats and in 2017 it was left with just two deputies.
