Luanda - An Angolan delegation led by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Esmeralda Mendonça takes part  in the 115th Session of the Council of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) being held in Geneva, under the motto “Paths of Regular Migration: A Global Call to Action”.

At least 173 member states attend the event, eight of which have observer status, and serves as a platform for reviewing key issues related, above all, to global migration.

IOM is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and, among other tasks, it is dedicated to promoting migration in a humane and orderly manner for the benefit of all parties involved, through the provision of services and advice to migrants, and technical support and advice to governments.

It works closely with its governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, promote international cooperation on related issues, help find solutions and provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced persons.

As the leading international organization in the migration field, IOM works with its partners in the international community to help meet the growing operational challenges in migration management, encourage social and economic development through migration and defend the human dignity and well-being of migrants.

Founded in 1951, the International Organization for Migration is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration, and today has 393 offices in more than 150 countries.

It has been in Angola since 1991 and is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all parties involved, by providing services and advice to migrants and technical support and advice to governments. SC/AMP
