Luanda - The Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSMJ) decided Wednesday to create inspection teams to monitor cases of sexual abuse of minors in the courts of common jurisdiction, in order to speed up the process.

The measure came out of the 4th extraordinary session of the Superior Council of Judiciary held in Luanda, which also analyzed the need for a jurisprudential position on cases of sexual violence against minors.

It recommended judicial coordination bodies to create conditions for the implementation of reception, observation and internment centers for minors in conflict with the law.

Among other issues, the meeting analyzed the handling of cases of sexual violence against minors in the courts of common jurisdiction.

According to the report presented at the meeting, from the beginning of this year until now, the District Court of the Municipality of Luanda registered a total of 121 cases of sexual abuse of minors, while Viana (Zango 0) has received 79 complaints.

During this period, the report said, at least 141 cases were opened, of which 26 were tried, while 107 are in progress and seven submitted to the Public Prosecutor's Office.

The working agenda of the CSMJ meeting includes the request to set up a specialized courtroom for maritime issues at the Moçâmedes District Court, the proposal to create a general jurisdiction courtroom in Cacula, at the Quilengues District Court, as well as the situation regarding the processing of habeas corpus cases at the Luanda Court of Appeal. FMA/ART/DAN/AMP
