Luanda - The current political situation in Guinea-Bissau was under analysis this Wednesday, in Luanda, in a meeting between the president of the Monitoring Group for the Parliaments of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), Virgílio de Fontes Pereira, and the leader of the Guinea Bissau parliament, Domingos Simões Pereira.

Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting, held on the sidelines of the 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Virgílio de Fontes Pereira informed that, based on what he heard from Domingos Pereira, it is possible for Guinea-Bissau to have its political path on track.

“According to the information that Domingos Simões Pereira provided us, everything indicates that the major political upheavals in Guinea-Bissau may experience a certain slowdown”, he highlighted.

In turn, the Speaker of the National Popular Assembly of Guinea-Bissau, Domingos Simões Pereira, said that, despite some progress, the political environment in his country "remains fragile" but it was still possible to hold elections and establish the National Assembly.

In his opinion, it is enough to have political will to establish the necessary balances for the full functioning of institutions in his country.

The leader of the Guinean parliament expressed gratitude to the Angolan authorities for the invitation to participate in the IPU's 147th General Assembly, in the Angolan capital.
