Cabinda - The Minister of State and Head of the Military Office of the President of the Republic, Francisco Pereira Furtado, reaffirmed on Friday, in the province of Cabinda, that the smuggling of fuel to neighboring countries poses a real threat to national security.

Speaking at a meeting that brought together the provincial government of Cabinda and the oil companies operating in the region, the Minister of State reiterated that everything is being done by the central entities to discourage this crime that has negative repercussions on the national economy.

The meeting reviewed, in addition to fuel smuggling, the security of the province, gold mining, illegal immigration and security on the sea coast of Cabinda.

He also said that the Angolan authorities were concerned about the 'invasion' by national and foreign vessels of the perimeter of the oil platform facilities along the sea coast.

Regarding the political-military situation in Cabinda, the minister considered it calm, despite some incidents that are recorded on the border perimeter with the DRC.

'Fortunately, for some time now, the political-military situation has seen substantial improvements, as a result of the regular meetings that have been held between the security and intelligence services of the two countries,' he said.

In addition to the governor of Cabinda, Suzana de Abreu, the meeting was attended by representatives of some oil companies and defense and internal security agencies. JFC/JL/DOJ
