Luanda - The Regional Coordination Committee of the General Directors and Heads of the Intelligence and Security Services of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR)'s Member States held, until Tuesday, in Luanda, its 18th meeting which evaluated the security situation in this area of the continent.

The two-day meeting, according to a press release sent to ANGOP, also focused on the financial report and the 2025 draft budget.

Speaking at the opening session, General Sequeira João Lourenço, Deputy-Chief of the President’s Military Staff Office, praised the role of the 12 Intelligence and Security Services that make up the Regional Coordination Committee in sharing intelligence information on threats and risks that affect the stability of the Great Lakes Region, (GLR) including terrorism, the illicit exploitation of natural resources, the proliferation of armed groups, among others.

He added that the work of the Intelligence and Security Services of the Member States of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region must focus on preventing conflicts and neutralizing espionage and all possible adverse actions against member States of the Region.

The meeting elected Ambassador Justin Inzum Kakiak, DRC General Administrator of the National Intelligence Agency (ANR), to the presidency of the organization for the year 2025.

The Regional Coordination Committee of Chiefs and General Directors of Intelligence and Security Services is a ICGLR Statutory structure that deals with security issues in the 12 member States, namely Angola, Burundi, CAR, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
