Luanda - The Reconciliation Commission in Memory of the Victims of Political Conflicts (CIVICOP) carried out on Tuesday, in Luanda, the delivery of the remains of General Fernando Diniz Sambimbi 'Begin', victim of illness, in the municipality of Cuemba, province of Bié, in a context of armed conflict.

In this way, the general will be entitled to a funeral with military honors, at the General Staff (formerly R20), on the 15th and will be buried on the 17th, in the province of Bié, his homeland.

When presiding over the act, the Minister of the Interior, Eugénio Laborinho, said that the act follows a request made by the family of the deceased to locate the mortal remains of the deceased, in an intense moment of military conflict, which occurred in the country, and not it was possible to carry out the burial in acceptable conditions as required by funeral rituals.

According to the minister, despite the physical death not being the result of the military conflict, CIVICOP, for humanitarian reasons, accepted the family's request to carry out a dignified burial.

He clarified that to achieve the result, biological samples were collected from direct family members and compared to those of the deceased, at the Central Criminalistics Laboratory of the Criminal Investigation Services (SIC), through rigorous forensic work.

He explained that the work stems from the mission entrusted to the members of COVICOP, by the Holder of the Executive Branch, regarding the need to give dignity and respect to the victims of political conflicts occurring in the country.

During the event, he asked for patience and understanding from other families who have not yet seen their processes concluded, reaffirming that they will continue to work hard to deal with the cases still pending, and addressed their deepest condolences and sorrow to the bereaved family.

In turn, João Diniz Ekangala, nephew of the deceased, thanked the authorities for the work carried out, in order to hold a dignified funeral for his family member and called for gestures of this kind to be replicated.

He described the unsuccessful man as 'charismatic, exemplary and of excellence'.

Fernando Diniz Sambimbi, general of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), from the UNITA military forces, born in the province of Bié, born on October 25, 1952 and died on December 10, 1999, leaving a widow and children. MGM/VIC/DOJ
